Default No longer receiving channels...

Hi all.

A friend can no longer watch TV. He has a sat dish which works ok on his downstairs TV via a digibox but the upstairs one uses an analogue aerial, going to a TV with a built in freeview tuner. He said it used to work ok but now it no longer does. I know that our area has been switched over to digital, I'm wondering whether this may be the cause? Although I'm not sure the switchover coincided with his TV not getting a signal.

I've checked connections, the aerial doesnt seem to have moved. Please can anyone suggest what may be wrong before I end up running another cable from the dish.

I don't profess to be that well up on terrestrial TV matters, but I would suggest that his being switched over to digital and having an anologue aerial would have dome bearing on the lack of channels.

If it went off at the precise moment that digital switch over occurred then it is possible that the arial doesn't cover the required bands, or maybe even a different tranmitter is now being used, I'm not up on terrestrial stuff either.

Maybe the aerial got lots of snow on it and fell over.

Has he tried retuning his digital TV?

Not entirely sure if it went off at the precise time of the switchover. Don't think the aerial has moved, it doesn't look like it has.

Have tried retuning TV but it just says 'No signal being received'.

All you can do is to go to the Digital Uk site Digital UK - Home

and check up which Muxes you are on and which way the aerial needs to point, then check with the Tv to see if you are getting them.

Even with an out of band grouped aerial after DSO, you should get at least something. Possible signs of problems else where within the aerial system.

Teletext closed all services at the beginning of the year - the company has shut up shop as well!

Some of the Teletext services,are still transmitting.
Teletext Holidays and Racing continues on ITV and Channel 4.
It also includes NHS Direct/Choices.
You can carry out the Teletext test on Ceeefax(Page 284),on BBC1 or BBC 2.
