Default Setting up dish

Ok after all my mvision hd200 receiver arrived (all working i was told)

I got sat finder plugged into p1 on a quad lnb with a lead to receiver which is not connected to the mains

Seems to be pointing in the same direction as the guy over the road but i can't get even the faintest light on the sat finder no matter where i move the dish too

Any ideas thanks.

I do believe you need you receiver plugged in. If you using a cheap anologue gauge it uses the box's power from box to lnb to power the meter.

Thanks kegnkiwi

On the instructions its says (before mounting the sat finder set, the system must be disconnected completely from power supply to prevent short circuits during assembly)

Does this mean the receiver needs to be powered after all connections have been made?

Also the sat finder has two settings, 0dB to -6dB. What setting should it be on?

Thanks

Ok how it works. You do turn every thing off until your ready then turn the receiver on and I would select a channel you want to watch. This will send power to the lnb there lighting up the light inside the meter. Unless a digital one. The little round button wants to be set about half way or a little more to the right. As you tune the dish in the gauge should move eventually sending the needle all the way to the right. Next drop the button to the left and slightly and the needle may drop. Try and adjust the dish again slightly, the needle may move again to the right. Keep doing this until you cannot get a better signal before everything starts getting worse. This is called peaking the dish.

You do indeed need the receiver plugged in, if it is not and you do not have a very good metre then there will be no power going to the LNB so that will not work, therefore you will not get anything at all. I never use a metre, the cheap ones are not much good and if you want one that is any good you need to be prepared to pay plenty for it. You would be better using the metre/sat finder in the box than a cheap metre.

Good luck with it mate.

Just a point about power and the LNB and this will serve others who are about to start with satellite TV.

NEVER HAVE TO POWER SWITCHED ON TO THE BOX, WHEN THE LNB IS NOT CONNECTED, THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BOX, BUT IF YOU HAVE THE POWER ON AND THEN CONNECT THE LNB THERE IS A REAL CHANCE THAT YOU WILL BLOW THE LNB.

Hope this will save some new members making a bad mistake.

Haza you will have no trouble with the box turned on.

Well done mate, that is very good news. Now go here

Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2D at 28.2°E - LyngSat and you will find all the frequencies for the satellites in that cluster. Not sure why you are not getting any BBC or ITV HD channels, but you can enter the frequencies manually into the box and try that way. You should have a couple of five channels, one is clear and the other is encrypted in NDS.

The channels with $ are the encrypted ones, as you well know. I am not sure if you can patch you box or not, if you can then please go and get the latest patch and if you can, also get a settings file, it will have all the channels in it and should cure your lack of channels.

Hope you get your box to your pleasing very soon.

Regards Wez
