Default Wireless Router to Cable Modem

I have bought a Belkin N Router. I have tried to connect it to my chipped cable modem, but when setting it up I only ever get a 192 IP address, and in ipconfig it states Media Disconnected. I cannot get my 2 other computers upstairs to connect to the internet.

When connecting my laptop directly to the modem with the ethernet cable, I get a 82 ip address.

Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do?

Any help would be great, I am a novice so please be kind

Your getting a 192 address from the router as its a DHCP server this is normal. Unplug router and modem, plug modem in wait for all the lights then plug in the router and you should be cooking. Also like the modem the router will have a config page might be worth checking that too for wireless settings

Hi,

I have tried the instructions offered by Danielle, but it still won't connect to my other 2 computers upstairs. I can't find the router settings page at all? It didn't come with an instruction manual either, as according to the box its just plug in and you are wireless - lol

I also don't know where the ip release button is on the router - I have looked all over the ****** thing.

Any more suggestions? Please .......

Hi,
The address for the Gui should be 192.168.2.1,where it asks for a password the default is none so leave the field blank, you'll find the IP release in there somewhere and also a button to clone the ethernet mac address of your PC,hit that one and it should sort your connection problems.
