samsung tv with common interface

i have just purchased a samsung tv. looking through the manual i came across viewing common interface and after inspecting tv it has a slot on the side to use acard what is this for i have not got a clue cheers

what on earth is a common interface , i have as lot on the side of tv to recieve one but i have not got a clue what it is cheers daz

If it has a Freeview tuner then it will probably be for Top Up TV, check topuptv.com.
One of the channels, ESPN, is supposed to be free this weekend, worth checking.

If its a Freeview TV then its probably so you can stick a TopUpTV cam in it.

It is a slot to accept a CAM, which in turn will accept a card. This is normally so that you watch Pay TV channels. Many satellite boxes also have CI slots.
