Default Modem loses connection when I switch on my PS3

as in the title

for some very strange reason...SOME TIMES when i turn on my ps3, it causes the cable light to go out on my virgin media modem...if i turn the ps3 off, the light(and internet connection) returns

it was happening the other night, so i went over to the ps3 to try to connect it via ethernet cable instead of wirelessly...and as if by magic as soon as i moved the ps3 it came back on and i havent had a problem since

until now, its just started doing it again...only now i have been connected through ethernet ever since this problem the other night

its driving me crazy now...my modem knows when my ps3 is turned on, even if i disable internet connection on my ps3

anyone shed any light on this for me?

if it helps, the ps3 is sat no more than 10 inches from the router and modem

ahhh...cheers for this mate...i would say mine must be a mac clash as it goes off as soon as i switch the ps3 on and comes back as soon as i switch it off

thing is though, its working again now, and has worked for 3-4 days since it originally happened

it is on a static ip so i could forward the ports...but im confident thats not my problem as i went in and set it to dhcp and still had the same problem...infact i disabled internet altogether and it was still doing it

thing that makes me think its a mac clash is that virgin just sent me a new(old type) modem...as i was having connection problems before(completely different to this new problem)....first they said i was over-using it, then they said traffic management shouldnt be a problem now as i had backed off it for a week....and still was getting the problems...

anyhow, they sent me a new modem, and its since ive been using this new modem that this problem with the ps3 has been happening

i could call them and ask them to switch my modem back(i still have both the 2 old ones)...all they do is re-register the mac address and its away again...but this new modem has been way better than the other 2 newer models i had at first and i dont really wanna change it...is there another way around this issue?
