Basically I have an ACER LCD HD tv which i got second hand yesterday, and it came with an HDMI cable coming out of the DV-1 socket. But when i plug this cable into my Playstation 3, it has crystal clear perfect high definition display, but there is no sound? whats wrong?

alrite mate,
a friend of mine had the same problem when he switched to hdmi,
he was playing modern warfare 2 and he went to the in game settings and the option was there,

I had a similar issue before. Try this:

With power in but the console on standby (red light), press and hold the ON button until you hear a beep then release it. The console will adjust itself to the optimum resolution for the screen it is connected to.

Unless its a modified dvi connection, it does not support sound. You will need to fit separate audio cables from the PS3 to the TV.
