Hi all, great site you have hear.
I have fumbled through and got my technomate up and running.
I am finding it frustating talk of different satellite that are out there, can someone tell me 1. What sat's i should be able to recieve from the Notts area. 2. Would all the UK be able to recieve the same sat's as each other. I Think the answers would help lots of newbies like myself.
thanks in advance

About 15 to 20 different satellites, depending on dish size, I take you have a motorised dish?

On a 1m dish, the following are possible, maybe a few more

30w,22.5w,15w,12.5w,8w,7w,5w,4w,0.8w/1W.4.8e,9e,10e,13e,16e,19e,23.5e,26e,28e,33e,36e,3 9e,42e,45e.

NB 16E is broken at the moment.

7E and one or two channels of 40E can be added as well. Possibly 53E if you have suitable reception equipment (mpeg4)

The longitude reading gives you your true south, negative readings are West positive readings are East, in this case your nearest due south satellite is 4W, but the easiest one to set up on is 5W:

Default Re: What satellite's available

quick question on this. When you say we should be able to see 45o East from the UK....just how much would that be of an actual movement of the dish from due South?
The reason I ask is I live on a row of semi detached houses. I am thinking of placing my dish on a flat roofed extension at the back of the house. I would have an uninterupted sweep West, but would only get so far going EAst. So I'm trying to work out when the next house along would star to interfere with my arc.
So how much of a move would that be for the dish and how close and high do the buildings in my row have to be before they would cause a problem? (or maybe put anotherway...how far away do they need to be before they wouldn't block the arc East?)

Thanks in advance.

Just use a protractor, as this will give you a rough guide. If you haven't got one put Protractor, in google images and print one off, it works and should give you a good guide.
Point the 90 at South then check the sweep from 45 to 135.
