Nice to see at least somebody has some sense over there

A CS section was a really bad idea. It only benefits people who have something to gain by it. It doesn't benefit the forum one little bit

I've taken the c/s section out for the moment - the introduction of it has created a few concerns so I'd much rather see these addressed first before returning it.

Apologies if the action is a bit sudden, but I figure I need to look after community concerns first and ensure the overall community is protected.

While there are obvious and simple reasons why someone with a satellite or cable system might want to discuss card share issues, not least watching across different TV's or similar, the big danger that some people will see it as a way to get free premium channel TV.

That means attracting people into TW looking for free Sky and similar, who are then directed by other members to pay servers where people can end up getting ripped off. Within a few hours of being set up we already had the first spam in that section trying to promote a dodgy pay server with an affiliate link.

That certainly can't be a good situation for the community, so for the protection of everyone I've taken the decision to take down the card sharing section before it opens up a Pandora's Box of problems for everyone.

Hope that helps explain it, though I appreciate it's going to disappoint some genuine people.

I totally undertand why you have done this, but I hope it does return.

I have no interest in getting free TV with this, but do enjoy the "how to" side of things - always learning!

Maybe some of these problems come from the SAT / Cable divide. I know the CS section has come about due to N3, and therefore rules have been looked at again to keep the forum up to date. I sense bad vibes as the SAT section of the site has been restricted until it benefited both parties.......... I would have been a bit miffed if it was the other way around so understand the frustration.

I know that peole will say to use other forums / google for that but I dont want to! I joined here with no knowledge and am gradually getting better through the help of ALL the people on here. Most other sites seem not to welcome newbies as much as TW.

Anyway, I for one hope it returns.

I too hope that it may one day return for the same reason you mentioned, I love knowing 'how-to'.

TechWatch really is an 'everymans' forum and the introduction of the card-share section could take away the general appeal that TW has, if the issues outlined can be addressed - whee!! I can learn more, if not, I'll be moving over to Sat anyway, so it's unlikely I'll get bored!

Card sharing should be kept as a taboo subject, it needs to be kept underground and not in the forum general population. If people want to know how to card share then there are plenty of sites where guides are in place. The vast majority of people on this forum have no inention of using this technology other that aiming to get free tv in the uk or ireland, very few people are remotley interested in what goes on in europe. If you allow card sharing all it will do is promote pay servers being promoted by pm's. Techwatch is big enough to ride out the storm that is coming, just keep it the way it is.

As a point of interest, just how would that work? Either you have it or you don't. Just who would have the password? Is it suggested that TW should have a section for one select section of it's members who will be able to avail of this and to hell with the rest of them? What would be the point in having it password protected, if the idea would be to keep the Sly and VM spies out, then how are you going to know who they are? Where are you going to hide it and for what purpose?

Regards Wez

As my Dad once said to me as a lad, seems a lot like more trouble than its worth ultimately - a shame too, but then, a loss of the entire forum due to pressure from VM or BskyB would certainly be far worse.

I'm content with the fact TW is here and free to use for everyone, the help and support here is what you would expect from a pay-driven help forum, like experts-exchange for example, but of course the sheer beauty here is the lack of having to pay, and instead being given the option to donate!

Perhaps some members just need to bear in mind how lucky we are to have a resource like TW in the first place!
