Default OpenMedia 500CS

I bought this receiver back in the start of November due to just having a cable box, and since Cable was the first to get its encryption upgraded in my area I decided to go for this box as it has both.
The box is a Dream 500 copy but has the functionality of actually moving the motor on a motorised dish.
It has two chips on it so you can switch between a cable linux flash or a satellite linux flash.

I have been using it on the Satellite mode for about 2 months now and have no fault with it what so ever, has LAN so i can connect it to the internet for updates etc.

Brilliant box for £80

I know Waqas on here has the same box.

Wish they brought the same model out but in HD. Gotta get a HD tv first though

Just my 2 cents

I think its a bit more now(about £110-£130 new). I reckon costs will go up slightly as well for "hybrid" receivers mainly because of supply/demand. They are sold that they can power a motor, but Ive never had the chance to test. Now, Ill be getting the big dish and motor put up after Ive scared my parents lol. Not telling them about the SV 6 though!(Not for UK though)

From all the receivers Ive had, this has to be second best. I class the Eurovox Max V as the most reliable receiver Ive had(to be fair SV was good before they screwed up on fw after releasing SV 4) however this receiver had quite a big edge.

At the time, I believe this was selling for £90-£100 and that was the same price as other receivers(new) This is a linux receiver and it has a satellite side that can apparently handle a motor. Need confirmation on this-Its a fairly popular receiver at DK. Well worth it for the price

Another edge it had was the fact that linux receivers(especially those with a DVB-S tuner) work around the world even for FTA purposes, so this will always retain a high value of around about £70-£80 used IMO(if it can handle a motor) Even if it cant, I reckon it could easily still sell for £65 is kept in a good condition, seeing as though many dreambox's sell for that price(used)

The deciding factor on purchasing this receiver for me was that its futureproof even as an FTA SD receiver as it can handle a motor(apparently) and it had an ethernet. A lot of us knew d-day was coming soon, so I planned ahead and bought this

Thumbs up Re: OpenMedia 500CS

I agree I got one of these second hand and have run it on cable for some time rock solid very rarely goes wrong ( in fact can't remember when it has ). I also will be trying it on sat with motorised dish when i get around to setting it up. I guess I have gone full circle from sat to cable and back to sat. Okay I would be happy to know any info good or bad anybody has on these boxes and i will do my best to give any useful info i find.

Lol, who told you its not worth the money? Unless it was recently? These will still be worth a lot even after nagra 3. I reckon these would still be worth about £75 as they can still power a motor even for FTA use

I can now confirm that the Openmedia 500cs is able to power a motor, unlike some clone DM 500's. Seeing as though hybrid receivers wont be here for long and OM's are harder to find, Id recommend people here get a "Technomate 500S" which is like a DM 500, except it can power a motor unlike some clones

If your wanting a cheap FTA satellite receiver, then theres one at Maplins at just under £40, that can power a motor

its no diffrent than {dream 500s / 500c} so cant see why you think it was not worth buying.
unless you only know how to use a plug and play cbl box.
