Default FTP not able to over the network?

Hey all, basically my desktop PC is connected to my Belkin Wireless router through one of the ports on the wireless router

My wireless router's IP is the default of 192.168.2.1 and my netbook is on 192.168.2.7 via wireless. Ive hooked up my Openmedia up to the router to one of the ports and Ive assigned it an IP address of 192.168.2.6

The netbook was given an IP by DHCP. There are also no conflicts in the network. When I typed in my internal IP address of my wireless router in to the browser, I saw which devices were connected. The funny thing is I can type in the IP address of my printer(networked) which is 192.168.2.5 in to my browser(on the netbook) and I can see how much ink is left etc...

When I type in the IP address of the openmedia in to the browser on the netbook, it does not connect despite all things being plugged in etc... however if the PC is switched on, I can happily type in the IP address in to the browser(only on the PC though!) and am able to configure it like that

Ideally, I would like to network all my devices and be able to connect to them by opening an FTP program such as FlashFXP and be able to transfer fixes from a wireless device connected to the network

This has baffled me, seeing as though I thought I should be able to connect to the receiver, seeing as though its connected to the network via ethernet and I thought I should have been able to FTP things by other devices and not just the PC connected to the wireless router directly through one of the ports

It just makes no sense. Can anyone advise of what to do?

BTW, sorry for the essay lol. I was just describing my network and what I know about whats going on so far

is it not a network discovery thing?

if its vista or win7 you'll need to faf about with the private/public network thingy and have network discovery on and all the rest set to facilitate file transfer

Hi mate would DCC not work with that box? If you download it and try it you might not have to worry about any other way round it. As i do not have a clone box I can't be sure it will work, but it is well worth a try, as I have it working with Win 7 without any problem.

Hi mate DDC is Dreambox Control Centre google it and I am sure you will have no trouble finding it. Might be in the downloads, but never been there so could not say. Good luck with it, you can do just about anything with it, at the top of the screen there is a thing like a remote control, click on it and it will open a window in your browser, which gives you access to your box.

Right, I used DCC with no luck. Also, this receiver was in my bedroom and was hardly used, so it was eventually given to my cousin who just got a new house and wanted a receiver-I told him not to bother unless he has £100 for one like mine lol

anyway, I noticed his modem was connected to his wireless router, however his laptop wasnt at all. His default IP of the router was 192.168.0.1. I set the receiver's IP to 192.168.0.6 and in the local wireless network, I was able to type in the receivers IP in to any browser with no issues.

This is quite baffling. BTW, I have a Belkin N150(or something) Wireless router, however my cousin has got a Dlink G wireless router(free from VM). It is all quite baffling. Also, in all honesty I havent tried FTPing over to it in the local network over there. I assume you could though, seeing as though I could at least type in the IP address of the receiver in any device without a problem(well the ones connected via LAN)

ive seen only one network that was wireless connect to a dbox using ifa without any problems... ive tried mine this morning (wireless laptop) and it wont connect to the dbox at all but yet on my lan its fine... it might be worth sticking in a couple of ethernet cables to get the job done...

have you tried the media sensing patch for the pc which helps ifa see the dbox starting up?

i think hard wired is the safest and easiest way of connecting.

regards dave

Quavis, what I was saying is I wired my receiver to the router and then wanted to control from my netbook(wireless)

I could connect up via ethernet, but I am wanting portability, so that I can FTP to the receiver from my living room if you get what I mean

Like I said, its baffling that I can access the IP in my cousin's house when I am connected to the local network, but not my own when the set up is pretty similar

yeha i get you, it does seem like it should work! must be something simple you are missing..... my router has seperate settigns for the lan and seperate for the wan have you checked on your router for that? it might just be a case of enabling something there but other than that i ahve no idea lol !

Right, Ill have a look at the Wireless router settings. Anyone care to help me via teamviewer when I need to connect it? lol. Oh and I was able to FTP over to my cousins receiver wireless from the netbook, and I was able to use telnet with putty, seeing as though there is no telnet client for Windows 7. So that just confirms that the network over there is operating fine
