Default new install dish, having problems.

hi , i put up my bracket up today and set up my motor elevation angle to 34 as my latutude is 56, went to set my dish bracket to 22.2 as as on my technomate book it says that the settings for my latitude angle, the problem comes here, on my dish bracket its got numbers at both sides, if a set one side to 22.2 the the other side sits about 30, this is where im confused, i set it to my due south using dishpointer.com(or as close as i could)(don't have a sat finder) i then sent the motor to 5w from the box,the dish will move west. all i get is level going between 43% and 97%Quality around 21 % and these are in red when in the satalite set up, just wondering if i have set the dish angle wrong or if anyone could help me i have a tm5400 ci + and a 1m motorized dish with a technomate tm-s2300 super motor. if anyone could help it would be appreciated, thanks.

Most dish brackets are horribly inacurate anyway when it comes to setting up. The best way, assuming that your setup up to now is all correct, is to send the motor to your due south sat, then move the motor around the pole and adjust the dish bracket angle for best signal. Then test the rest of the arc. If everything else is right you should be there

Hi, have a read of one of these guides.

DiSEqC motor installation guides.

You can't just do it by setting the dish according to numbers, you have to adjust it.

The motor elevation/latitude is the only one that needs to set by using its scale.

By sending your dish to 5W using USALS, and adjusting the motor around the pole, and swivelling the dish upand down for best signal on a 5W transponder you will get your motor pointing at due south spot on.

However, yes, you will need some means of measuring the signal quality. I find cheap sat finders are just crap. A much better way is to use the sat receiver itself, all you need is a portable TV. You could maybe use a sat finder, but it will never tell you which satellite you are on, with plenty of other sats around that area to hit instead if you don't know.

And don't forget, read them guides!!, knowing what you're supposed to be doing makes the job a damn sight easier.

You don't really need a sat finder, and most cheap sat finders aren't that good anyway, just tune your receiver to a FTA, Free to Air, channel on 5W:

HTML Code:
http://www.lyngsat.com/ab3.html
Use one using the Super beam, as these are very strong in the UK:
HTML Code:
http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/ab3_super.html
Then manually adjust your motor, and dish, until you get a picture, then gently adjust it to get the best signal.
Once complete tighten everything up and see what readings you get on the other satellites.

Beaten to it
