Haha, brilliant. A 'Satellite CS Legality discussion' has turned into a CS discussion.

I'm new here - so please be gentle. Can anyone tell me in detail how to watch Rupert's channels for free? Is there a sticky somewhere?

Does this mean we are all out of legal arguments and now we get to mess about????

As for working for Mr Murdoch, I would rather have my nuts crushed in a vice.
Now there is an idea for a porn channel. It will be scrambled so there will be a need for card sharing but I won't prosecute. I promise.

In terms of legal issues - tonight I'm planning to rip songs from a number of my bought Depeche Mode CD's to create a single "favourites" CD for the car.

Technically it is illegal to do so because I'm violating the copyright of Mute Records by not asking their permission to do so, even for personal use of a paid for product.

In fact, if I reprint any lyrics I am also violating artist copyrights, so here's a an excerpt from a song on their Violator album:

Quote:
You wear guilt
Like shackles on your feet
Like a halo in reverse
Whoops.

The chances of Mute seeking to take legal action against me for either instance is very unlikely, despite my breaking the law, because in neither instance is it arguable it will cause any material losses for any of the copyright holders involved.

Neither are Mute likely to take Microsoft to court for providing me with the software to rip these CD's directly from Windows Media Player.

However, if I were to upload copies of these CD's online in an environment that encourages people to take copies, even for personal use, it is very likely the company holding distribution rights to these would get very narked off.

The issue isn't whether something is illegal or not - it's whether we would be seen to be directly encouraging people to break copyright laws and in such a way as to create significant material losses for the companies involved.

If individual card share discussions do not, and no company reports such information as inappropriate, I'm not sure there is a problem. Obviously, it would be better all round to avoid the latter, though.

That's why I want to see what sort of discussions may arise in the first place, before making a decision as to whether a dedicated c/s section will be of benefit to the community or not.

Personally I don't believe you should admit to such a vile act, especially publicly, not the ripping of music CD's but to liking Depeche Mode

Just go to the dreambox section and post there mate, we will get you sorted in the long run mate. PM me if you have a problem and I will see what I can do to help you out, I do not have my 500s, at the moment, but I can remember most things.

I suppose with Sky clamping down on c/s it probably wont be able to do much for quite a few people. Does yours power a motor? If it does, I dont see how you can call it nasty
