Default my sb5100 carnt figure out the problem

my sb5100 went down
now i tried alot of macs and the ones that work are only giving me speeds of around 256kb (quarter meg)
im new to modems and dont have a clue
Firmware: SB5100MoD v1.0.4 Beta
and i did set bpi as false dont know if this is suppost to be like this or if this is the prob
i set it as false through telnet commands because theres no settings in the settings page
i set it by

cd /n/d
enable bpi false
write

can anyone help please
i carnt be that unlucky to have all my macs being a quarter of a meg ive tried loads

also is there anyway of checking what speed a mac is without putting it in and speedtesting?

You could try several things including:

> Spoof your NIC mac
> Try another HFC mac
> Enable bpi (this is most likely culprit, IMO)
> Make sure modem vendor & software version information is spoofed correctly to suit your mac (eg, an ambit 250 mac with SB5100 identifiers can cause issues similar to what you describe, including the inability to sync to the network at all)

To check the speed of your mac, download the config from your modem and open it with a program similar to Vultureware Docsis Config Editor

Are you changing your NIC mac when you change the HFC mac? If you don't do this your NIC mac will simply get blacklisted and you'll get either no access at all, or very very slow access, like you describe.

Take a look at the tutorials on this forum, all the settings and tips/tricks to getting your modem running again are only a quick search away, personally I'd suggest you try flashing over a 2meg dump of haxorware firmware instead of SB5100 Mod - its much more user-friendly for a first-time modem modder.

Bag of crisps?

Mac address - MAC address - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nic Mac - Network interface controller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mac Spoof - MAC spoofing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, read the forum, there are lots of guides and tutorials to get you on your feet. I am willing to help point you in the right direction mate, but realistically, I won't spoon-feed you information on demand.
