![]() Man's best friend has a lot to live up to if this tale is anything to go by. Based within the harsh climes of the Antarctic wilderness, survival guide Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) knows a thing or two about the unforgiving terrain. And when he’s reluctantly sent out on his final treacherous mission of the season, Jerry’s eight beloved sled dogs come to the rescue in an accident that almost costs scientist Davis McClaren (Bruce Greenwood) his life. But the four-legged heroes must stay behind as a debilitating storm forces Jerry and his colleagues (Jason Biggs) to evacuate soon afterwards, and despite Jerry promising with all his heart to come back for them, the merciless conditions make it impossible for even intrepid pilot Kate (Moon Bloodgood) to return. As their days alone pass by, the dogs are pushed to the limits of survival, whilst a desperate Jerry embarks on a monumental adventure to journey back to his stranded and relentlessly loyal companions. The fact that this film is based on a true story provides little comfort when you’re agonizing over Jerry and his faithful friends’ predicaments. Intense, heartbreaking, action-packed and moving throughout, even the most cynical film-goer will melt during this emotionally engulfing tale of courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. Eight Below is in cinemas from 20th April, and you’d be barking mad to miss it! Certificate PG |
