Default no hdmi connection on HD TV

I currently have a sky plus box attached to my 42" samsung rear projection tv. I have had the tv for about 2.5 years, and its been no trouble at all. The tv is HD. This week I orderd an upgrade to a sky HD box. The intention was to have the sky plus box moved to the bedroom and have the HD box put in its old place. The engineer arrived Saturday, and after turning the tv around to get to the back, he advised he could not install the new HD box as I dont have the correct connection. The tv has the jack plug sockets for the HD, but the sky box has hdmi. My question. I've seen cables with a hdmi male connection at one end and jack plugs at the other. Would it be possible to plug the sky HD box into a two way female extender then attach one of these hdmi to jack plug connections to the tv. I really cant see the point in buying a new tv, when the one I have is working fine

I assume that as your TV is HD it has rgb sockets and analogue audio sockets. You can get a hdmi to rgb+audio lead. Just google it and you will see several available. The first item I saw was a cable from Amazon at about £10.

i beleive the format you are talking about is componant. any phono leads will work in the mean time (i.e the yello red white leads that come free with most things)

isnt there a dvi conection on there aswell?? if there is get a hdmi to dvi converter here

The red yellow and white leads are for composite analogue signals and are not HD. I think the whole point of this thread was to obtain HD signals to the TV. HD can be achieved via HDMI, RGB or DVI, the latter two giving video only and requiring separate audio connections.

If you have a VGA port on your TV, you can use a HD Fury to convert a HDMI/DVI Digital signal into a VGA analogue signal. Works great on my 42" Plasma and Blu-Ray Player. The HD Fury also handles the HDCP.

yes you are right but if you use the composite leads on the componant sockets then you will be connected through componant as a quick fix. i did get that we are after hi def mate.

All I got to say is it must not be much of a HD TV if it has no HMDI interface on it.

To those that have been helpful with advice. I thank you, and to those who felt it necessary to take a knock, well someone has to support that football team. Really the info you have provided is welcomed. For the intrim I will use the alternate cables, and when the current TV become past its shelf life I will upgrade, but for now it functions well so I dont really see the need to spend £500 +

I meant no offence mate, never thought that my support for a football team would annoy anyone. Sorry if my opinion is not to your liking, but it is a more than valid point.

But, alas, not very helpful though.
