Default Question concerning BPI

this is a question about the BPI settings.

Can someone explain to me why some macs that
are believed to be working on Docis 1.1 do not work
if you change the bpi settings to 1.1 in the Baseline Privacy
menu of Haxorware.

It was my impression that these settings were there to
accomodate a mac on 1.1.

When I first started dabbling in modem modding my instructions
were to disable BPI and that the certificate should be BPI public key
now not knowing what the latter is, I have never set the certificate.

It appears now that even if i set the BPI to 1.1 or 1.0 only macs on 1.0 work but if I disable BPI none of them work.

Is the BPI (1.1) in the Baseline Privacy, window dressing or is there something that Virmin do to validate macs on 1.1.

If Virmin do use something to validate the 1.1 macs do we foresee a work
around for this coming soon.

Can someone shed some light on this.

I fixed my uncle's modem today. I put a different MAC in which was a BPI 1.1 MAC and I set the BPI to 1.1. The modem booted and locked on first time after that and he has told me it's been on for a good 3 or 4 hours now without any dropouts .

I think so yes, I tried a couple of 00:02 MACs but they didn't work.

That's very strange indeed - I had around 10 working 00:14 MACs (tested last week when I was online) that have all went kaput since Thursday. Changing the BPI doesn't help for me.
