Default Free Wi-Fi

How many places in your area have free wi-fi? A lot of the restaurants in my area have started offering free wireless to attact customers.

What's the payback on the "free" though?

I know companies such as Google have been keen to offer free wi-fi, but the caveat is that Google loves to collect and store and process personal data in a way that makes me think there's a real issue of privacy concerns developing here.

I know this is an older thread, but the topic is still a good one. What does it cost to put wi-fi in your house? A friend who lives in a small, resort town just gave wi-fi to the whole village as a gift for $1500 ..about what is it for a home?

My wireless router cost me around £50 - that gives me a wireless network around the house. Currently only use it to connect to broadband when on my laptop downstairs, though.

A lot of local restaurants in my area do free wifi. My Router came free with the monthly package, but if we end the contract we have to surrender it to them.
