Default locked laptop sata hdd

hi,
i have a toshiba mk1237gsx sata hdd that i have been trying to remove the password from after it self locked. i have downloads shed loads of programs but none seem to pick the hdd up as it is connected to my pc via usb. i'm at my wits end with this hdd but don't want to bin it.
is there a way to make my pc think the usb is true ide or are there any programs that will pick it up and unlock it?

thanks for any help

Does the HDD have an OS or anything on it? When does the HDD request that you enter a password?

i tried low level format but nothing and i have looked to reflash the firmware oh the hdd but can't find anything.
