Well, you cant not do more than 20 on some roads eg: very bumpy roads, or roads with speed bumps etc... but it shouldnt be introduced as the standard speed limit

In the UK at least, the speedometer in a car is required to be calibrated from 30mph, meaning there's a reasonabe defence against speeding in a 20 zone.

I had forgotten about this. Yet again the Irish establishment have f---ed up. I know some sports car makers have speedometers that don't even registered below this speed. Pagani I know being one, not that there are that many on the road, but it would still be a defense.

Well well well, wonders will never cease. There's been such uproar about this new 30kph limit that it's going to be more or less scrapped and a total review will take place. The councillor that suggested it in the first place has admitted he got it wrong.
Instead of making the city centre safer, the limit had the opposite effect. Drivers are so worried about breaking the limit they're looking at the speedo more than the road. Pedestrians are taking even bigger risks jaywalking. Business is suffering because motorists, worried about speeding fines, are going shopping out of town. Even taxi drivers are getting it in the neck. They charge for 'time in motion' and customers aren't happy having to cough up for travelling through the city at a snails pace while cyclists pass them by!
