Default Polish Sat TV - Newbie Thread

Hi

After recently returning from Poland the gf wants to get Polish satellite tv for the kid so he can learn more Polish. I have looked through some Polish threads but they all seem old and possibly out of date.

I am hoping to get some/all Polsat channels (including cbeebies polska) and realise they are encrypted using nagravision3. I am hoping there are alternatives to having to pay for an annual subscription to polsat and need some help/advice.

I bought a ross satellite kit from B&Q for £40 but haven't set it up yet as I don't think it will get the hotbird satellites as its branded on the box as FTA Astra but it says it has an "option" to receive foreign channels. Can I use this cheap setup or do I need to invest more money to improve mine and the sons Polish?

Any help is greatly appreciated, dzieki

Hi, and welcome to Techwatch.

Here is a list of FTA polish channels

FlySat Polish TV Channels

Hotbird has a few.

There doesn't appear to be any kids channels.

Your kit should be able to get the FTA channels from Hotbird though, assuming the dish is big enough, a sky minidish will pick up Hotbird no problems down here.

If you want anything better, you will have to subcribe to a package via an address back in Poland.

There are a handful of free Polish channels available on the European satellites, (mainly on Hotbird 13E) but if you want the pay channels then you are going to have to subscribe.

The Ross kit should allow you to install for 13E.

Edit - drat need to type faster.

If your looking to subscribe there are sellers on ebay that will supply a six month Cyfra+ Premierowy card and proprietry receiver for about £150.00

I get my Cyfra+ card from a seller in Poland, who only sells on the Polish eBay site. Its roughly just over £100 for 12 months, dependent on exchange rates.

The other alternative is Polsat or TNK. These can also be purchased off ebay directly from Poland

Is that from alegro? the gf has used it in the past so will look into it. Sat TV there is overpriced but £100-150 for 12months aint too bad. All that for polish cbeebies!

Very good value, even if it is just for Cbeebies in your own lingo I think. I'd pay it, if I was abroad and wanted English.

Actually its a typo, I just noticed

Its actually about £200 for 12 months Thats the joy of posting a few mins before going off to work

If you have a look on ebay.PL and change postage address to UK theres only 2 sellers who post to the UK

There's 2 Canal+ Movie channels, 2 Canal+ Sports, Discovery (x2), Nat Geo, Music channels, CBS/Zone channels to name a few.

Most have both Polish & English soundtracks.

The BBC channels are only available on Polsat as far as i am aware

Yes if you like African games! If you want UK games its all pay only. Occasionally a live feed appears in the clear on one one of the satellites but ceratinly nothing regularly.
