Default trouble with new coax install

i recently got a new samsung vbox to go with my existing one and modem(all hacked). So iv run all new coax cable today got it split from my main feed on a 2 way splitter 1 is plugged into my box in the living room the other goes along my room to outside then back into my back bedroom where its split again for my modem and other tv im using the old tv/fm splitters as iv got a new 3 and a 4 way but when i plug the broadband and tv into the newer splitter upstairs my broadband doesnt even register on a speedtest iv seen snails go faster, iv been racking my brains all day trying to sort it out using different splitters but nothing seems to work. Its only working now because iv only got my modem plugged in to the splitter upstairs and no tv. Any help would be appreciated thank you

Have you triend them individully upstairs on their own? As opose to running both simultaneously? Just a thought, but you may overloading the single line coming into the house, how long is the cable your using?

its around 30ft up to my back bedroom then the one going from the splitter to my modem is only about 12 inches long and the one to the upstairs tv is about 8ft long and yes they work when there plugged in seperatley modem is gettting 9-10 mb

So were talking around 10 metres of cable? Have you tried them individually? Without the tv plugged in as well, and without the splitter? Thats what i would be doing first, elimination process is key here.

You said you tried different splitters though? if your still having the same problem with different splitters then its possibly an overload of activity on one line.

Im not sure to be honest, i think its more to do with the signal strength, how much each device is taking versus how much the cable outputs as opose to how much cable you can use. But the longer the cable being used, the weaker the signal becomes, that rule applies with pretty much anything.

Regards

What type of cable are you using? Check the connections/f plugs that the shielding is not touching the core, (the wire in the middle). One of my friends completely cut off the shielding. He was fine with one device but had problems with two.

Also, make sure you are using a proper splitter. You've mentioned TV/FM splitter, this is normally an isolator to protect your equipment from surges. They are normally made by Qamtec. If it is an isolator, it will be quite chunky, whereas the splitters are thinner.
