Default Is 4th place good enough??

Just putting A question out for everyone views .

Do you think the most successful club in english football , being happy to finish 4th is anything to be happy about ?

Or is it a sad reflection on how a once great club has fallen ???

The club in question is Liverpool .

Live in between the two great citys of manchester and liverpool , but have been a season ticket holder at united for 22 years and been through the good and the bad with them .

Would say 60 % of my mates liverpool fans and good deal of them go to the match and are not armchair fans ( the ones i detest ) and only the odd few still believe in rafa .

So that question aswell , do liverpool fans still want a manager who has took the club from winning 5 trophies in 1 season to a club that has not won silverware for 4 going 5 years ??

Serious post and intrested in genuine fans thoughts on this .

Lol so you start a new thread , was still looking forward to your replys in the other thread which you seem to continuesley dodge when hit with facts.

In the current situation an the way the season has formed out yes every liverpool fan will be happy with minimum and a must 4th place. Every team in the league starts with TARGETS and AMBITIONS but as the season goes along some are still ACHIEVABLE and some FADE away as current you can see Liverpool are out the title race and Europe.

Liverpool are out of the Champions League but not out of Europe, would fans settle for winning the Europa cup and finishing 5th?

Every day there seems to be new rumours, regarding the sale of Liverpool, to a wealthy owner yet nothing materializes, probably because of the current 50/50 split between Hicks & Gillette, which is putting everybody off.

Rumours also abound of Rafa leaving in the Summer, to either Italy or Spain, personally I don't think he'll consider his job done, at Liverpool, until they win the Premier League, but this looks very doubtful, without investment, and what's happening over the new stadium?

If Liverpool fail to finish 4th it will be even tougher next year, especially if it's City that beats them.

I said last week if Liverpool win their next 3 games, against Everton, Arsenal and City, they have a great chance of challenging Arsenal for 3rd let alone 4th, then it could be Arsenal missing out.

Anything can still happen, including United losing a few games and dropping down the league, even Portsmouth could avoid relegation, but I'm not betting on that

Personally i would not settle for 5th and europa cup. I would settle for 4th and a no europa cup . Ideally a 3rd/4th place finish and europa cup would be great give us some thing to cheer about but you really need to be in the champions league competition to attract players to the club and its great financially also.

The ownership saga is just dragging along and deep down its affecting the manager and team rafa hasn't got the funds available for the players he wants just recently come out today that a deal for Marouane Chamakh was on the verge of being completed until talks broke down guaranteed that's our board at it again as rafa said he cant say much and he will not be joining now.

Arsenal is a big game tomorrow as they are coming back from 2 heavy defeats from united and Chelsea especially the manner they lost against both they were outplayed by united i was shocked to see they way united let em come then hit them on the counter at ease .

So i think arsenal will be a wounded animal tomorrow and try to put it right. on the other hand our defensive problems seem to have quietened down a bit and that gradually we are getting results and not letting in for a change. so i think will be a interesting game to see how arsenal come out at us and how Liverpool will respond aquilani is definitely out with illness so lucus and mascharano will be in middle of park.

All this summer nonsense of whos coming and going will leave it exactly what it says in title SUMMER at the moment our season is bad as it is we dont need any of the media garbage i dont think the players or staff read to much in to this and concentrate on the job in hand.

Thanks

England need the best 4 teams in the Champions League, to continue getting the 4th spot, at the moment you have to say that is Liverpool, if only due to their experience, Man City don't look the part yet.

Getting knocked out in the group stages, of the Champions League, was unexpected, at least by me, especially as it didn't look the strongest of groups, hopefully this was just a blip and if you qualify next year you will at least reach the quarter finals.

I can see Liverpool beating Arsenal, going by both teams recent form, providng Rafa goes for it and doesn't play a negative, defensive, team, the only problem is that I can't see who's going to score, for either Arsenal or Liverpool, unless it's Gerrard, he's due some goals.

Liverpool Football Club will always be great - besides you would know how a club can fall having been relegated in your 26 years without a league title...

I take it as a season ticket holder, you were one of the fans calling for Sir Alex's head in 1989???

Please can we refrain from the stupid, asinine, name calling, especially the disrespect of managers names.

I have already had to remove one post, from this thread, as it went too far.

I'm all for good natured banter but some posts seem less concerned about reasonable debate and more intent on baiting other fans.

To be able to compete Liverpool need some new investment, and especially a new ground.
How many does Anfield hold? Is it about 45,000? Liverpool can, and should, have crowds of nearer 70,000, with the much needed increased revenue.
Anfield has a great history, and status, throughout the world, but it's simply not big enough any more, not when other big European teams have grounds that can hold 70,000 - 100,000, every home game.
