Default Satellite help for a newb!

Hi,

Basically i'm quite new to satellites, and i'm thinking of getting myself a decent setup.

I'd like a 1m motorised system, a good reciever with twin tuner (for recording, watching another channel) a twin LNB and everything else that is needed.

I've been looking at Technomates and they seem to be a good choice. However i've heard something about needing to get a linux box as a certain satellite will be changing encryption or something?? So any good recommendations on receivers?

Basically its primarily for the Football (Man Utd) and any other good channels that i will get, would be great (HD, Nat geo, ect)

Any ideas on what set up i could get would be great. Max spend around £250. Also - the way my house sits, i can recieve all east satellites but only up to around 48w. Not sure if this is a problem.

I'd be quite confident fitting everything myself, however i may come unstuck at the aligning the dish part

Thanks is advance.

If you want HD entertainment / documentary channels then to be quite honest your best bet is Sky UK

I agree and £250 won't get you much than a single tuner HD receiver and dish pack

Sport is what im after really, anything else is a bonus. SD is fine for the time being but would like one with a twin tuner.

I've had a browse on southern satellites and they do the complete systems for like £180+. I was looking at the Technomate 5400 super with 1m dish pack and all the kit for £230.

I just need to decide really, however is it worth while as i've heard a mention of alot of the football going down because of some satellites/channels?

The only 'Free' football is on Thor through Digi TV and you are right this will disappear mid year when they move over to N3 encryption. Then you are left to buy a sub card. Or you might want to look at the Protek Unix 500 as this is opening via the Protek server Greek Nova, Sly Germany and others, but only when you configure the receiver but there is no guarantee how long it will be available.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So am i right in saying, that if i didn't want to fork out for a card and when Nagravision 3 kicks in, that its pointless getting a system. As all i wanted it for mainly was EPL and ECL.
