Hi

I am an ex Sky subscriber who has recently switched to Cable but still have the dish and sky viewing card. I have been using the sky box as a FTA freesat box but it has developed a fault - so have been looking at alternative boxes. I realise that there is much more to the dreamboxes but can I put the sky dish feeds into the box and receive the fta channels? If so do I need the viewing card and/or download any software onto it?

Waste of money doing that mate, unless you are interested in CS, something we can not discuss in detail here. With a fixed dish you will be restricted to which ever satellite that dish is pointing at. If you are going to get a DMM receiver you will also want to have a motorised dish and be aware that you will not be able to use a DMM receiver out of the box, you will have to do a lot of work with it to realise it's full potential. So unless you are prepared to spend a long time working with the receiver and install a motorised dish, then I would not recommend a DMM receiver. There are loads of cheap receivers out there which will do for Freesat, try some of the Technomate receivers, they have some which will work out the box for you and most are capable of recording to an external HDD ot USB stick. Give Ian at Southernsatellite a call and I am quite sure he will have the right receiver for you.

you can us the dream to view fta channels,, or you can mess about with it to use the sly card to work in it, but as wez said waste of money unless you going into cs.

i wouldn`t get one just for FTA it cheaper to get a Freeview box
