Just brought a dbox1 instead of dbox2 off ebay just wondering if the can be flashed in anyway

They can be flashed, don't know if you'll get anything useful though. Try googling "DVB2000" you should find some (mostly out of date) stuff.

Thanks for reply but what I really want to know is will I be able to receive as many channels as a debox 2 and in english with software or is it a no go

I don't know what's currently available, but It's very unlikely.
