I've recently bought the Vantage 8000TS, and I think I'm going to be very pleased with it. But I'm not entirely familiar with it yet.
For example, I'm puzzled by the Twin Tuner stuff. In order to activate/use the twin tuner, do you need a second cable from the dish? Or a splitter (into two) just before the receiver? A short piece of co-ax cable came with the receiver, with a threaded connector at each end (both male, I think). Has this anaything to do with the twin tuner? Any advice/comment welcome - Charles PS: Thanks, Wod, for your info about the latest software for the X221TS. |

Hi Charlesn,on the menu that looks like the world press ok,go to the bottom one that says tuner.Thats where you set your dish or dishes up(ie more than one dish,if you have)it will say loopthrough/same signel or seperate, pick what you have.Side arrow along to multimedia will bring you to USB,where your record,or use media to save your settings to hard drive.Settings menu your going to love, this vantage is the best iv used.Menu that looks like a wrighting pad & pen, this you can use to delete out one channel a time before you save your settings,or you can delete all channels & reload from media settings. This should get you started on what to do.

Hi, Satsid ... that's a lot of good info you've posted ... thank you!
I'm on my way out for the weekend at the moment so I haven't had a chance to follow your instructions yet - but I look forward to doing so. Will get back to you later :-) |

Hi Satsid ... Can give you a fullish report now.
I am using this receiver in Denmark, where Freeview-type channels come via a roof aerial (= Terrestrial) and satellite channels come via my multi-LNB dish (= Satellite). Knowing this, I bought the 8000TS model, with "TS" standing for Terrestrial and Satellite. But I didn't realise that the twin-tuner arrangement in this model allocates one tuner to the Terrestrial signal, the other to the Satellite signal (logical enough, once you realise it). So your instructions (to somebody who didn't really understand the twin-tuner setup) don't apply to my machine ... there is no menu option for Tuner 1 and Tuner 2, for instance. I suspect that you use and were describing the 8000S (S=Satellite), which I presume does have the twin tuners, both used for sat signals. The long and the short of it is that -- thanks to your push and info -- I now get a terrestrial signal correctly into the receiver plus a satellite signal (I had previously been unaware that for terrestrial you have to switch on a software signal booster in the Terrestrial menu, I think it's 5-watt strength). I had previously plugged the roof aerial directly into the back of the TV - annoyingly having to use two remotes, of course. Incidentally, I fitted an internal HDD: Seagate Pipeline HD.2 500 GB 3.5 in., S-ATA 300 Mbit/s 8MB Cache. The Proline model can work at temperatures of up to 75 deg. C, which means that a fan isn't necessary. The 500 GB capacity is ample for my fairly simple recording needs (Newsnight Scotland, Newsweek Scotland, Politics Scotland, FM Questions ... don't think I'm a politics junkie, just want to keep up with Holyrood while I'm away from home :-) ... things are looking interesting at the moment ... but that's off topic !) So for my needs here (T + S) everything's fine. When I get back to the UK I shall probably be looking for a Vantage 8000S with genuine twin-tuner capability, at a price similar to the one I paid in Germany. Know anyone who might have that sort of deal... ? ... ;-) I do have another question ... but I'll start a new thread. Regards - Charles |

Can you get this particular Seagate (Pipeline) in the UK? What does the price work out at? And how is the Vantage 8000S priced?
(In my earlier message, I called the HDD Proline by mistake) Last edited by charlesn; 12-03-10 at 12:27 PM. |
