Hello all.
Thinking about taking the 1st steps into the SAT world! I have been offered the Azbox HD premium for £230 from a friend which I believe is a good price. The problem is that it seems quite a "top end" model. Not to bothered price wise, but will this be a nightmare box keeping in mind that it will be 1st SAT box. I understand the Dreamboxes are difficult to get your head round - would this be similar - would I be Running before walking with this?I dont expect free TV before anyone mentions it but am getting interested in the SAT side of things and the massive amount of Sats / channels there is out there. I will be reading all stickies, threads, etc but I need to move quick on the box if I am to buy it. Any help / advice would be appriciated.

Why is your friend selling it?

Basically he needs he cash.
He has been using a Sat setup for a couple of years and has a Dreambox either 500 or 600 i think upstairs which he will be using as his main box until he is sorted. Should I pass on this one, as I see a lot of threads pointing newbies towards Technmates

The AZ Box is a linux based receiver, and difficult to master, especially as all the firmware doesn't work as it should, but it will be good experience, if you intend to get involved in the hobby.
What dish set up are you planning to use? Do you have a motorized dish or are you just planning to use a fixed dish? It all depends what you want from your receiver, and what type of dish set up you're planning. |

I agree with Mickha, the AzBox will take a steep learning curve, but fun if you intend to use for a hobby and would benefit from a motorised dish to get full use of it.

Thanks for the advice guys!
I took the plunge and bought it. I am having a 1m motorised Solid Steel dish installed with next week or so. Have to time it right so the MRS is out when its put up........... not as if she will get up there and take it down. ![]() Only really interested in FTA stuff at the min. Want to see what I can get, learn the basics, and take it from there. Decided that whatever I get there will be a lot learning. Its a lot differant than sticking a USB with FW into a Euovox for cable

I don't think the AzBox is too bad if all you want to watch is FTA. Some of the more advanced features like Blind Scan are still not working properly, but the firmware is improving all the time.
I use AzBox edit to sort channel lists.
