Default DiSEqC motor installation problem

I have just connected a TM2300 motor to my old sky analogue dish ( 60 cm one ) and then connected to my azbox. the problem is I can't pick anything up from 1w. So what I did was send the the motor to 13E and then adjusted the dish to pick up the signal whick is about 70% on the quality bar.

I can now move the dish using usuals to pick up 19.2E and 28E (good signal and quality) but i can't pick up any other satellites, especially on the west side. I am in NE england.

Could it be the elevation is wrong from the motor ? or is it down to the dish size.

Thanx

Wrong elevation as in most parts of the UK you need to align to 1w and min size is really 80cm

You should be able to get a reasonable amount of sats with a 60cm dish. You need to have a read of the motorised setup guides stickies to ensure you have everything correct.

Also if you can't get 1W on the 60cm (I can here), try one of the other satellites close to it, eg 5W, or 4.8E.

I can get 1w here on a zone 2, not much rain fade margin though.

Thanks for the advise and replies.

I have had another play tonight. set my dish to true south using a compas. But lost all the other satellites what I could pick up earlier and I still couldn't pick up 1w. Thought it must be the dish size, anyway sent the motor to 13e using usuals - no quality but strength. So I manaully adjusted the dish to 13e and got my quality back. I then used usuals to send it to 1w and and picked up a quality signal of 46% had a play a bit more and got it up to 60% by moving the lnb and not the dish. Took the ladder down , sods law - I think because i moved the lnb when I move the dish to 13e , 19.2e and 28e the the quality has now gone but just before it reaches the point of these sats the quality bar goes up and then goes down. I am unable to to tilt the dish has its an old dish so could this be causing the problem of alignment ?

If you are using USALS it isn't critical which satellite you initially align to.

As you can only get adjacent satellites, it must be an alignment problem - you are not tracking the arc.

If you have used the motor before then the motor elevation angle should be set correctly, however check it against the manual, based on your latitude.

Check that the pole is absolutely vertical.

If either of these are wrong then you won't track the arc.

Once these are set correctly the dish bracket angle will take care of itself when you peak the signal.

Finally optimize the signal by adjusting the scew of the Lnb (As a guide it should be somewhere near vertical on your 'due south' satellite.

Finally managed to get back up the ladder and changed my old sky dish to a new 80cm dish. Aligned ok and picking up sats on usuals, so far so good. However I have a new problem when I go to 1 west I can't pick up any of the digi tv channels when I do a scan. I have signal quality of 74% and can pick up other channels from 1 west though. Also If I send the dish to 28e I get a no signal if I put on a sky channel. Could this be a LNB problem, its the old universal one (not digital) that was connected to my old sky dish that about 12 years old that is causing the problem.

Thanx

Sorry did not read the first post right, if you are getting some sats then your LNB has got to be OK. Are you sure that the pole is plumb and you have the dish elevation set right? It is very strange that you can't find Thor, it should be strong enough for you to at least find some transponders on it. If you have had that LNB for that long then it might be a non digital one. Have you viewed any channels yet, if you can then the LNB must be OK? I thought that you had been viewing some channels, on first reading, but having read you post again, I do not see any reference to you have watched any channels.

Regards Wez

Sorry if I did not make myself clear......

When I scan 1West on my azbox I get good signal and quality is about 72%. I can scan channels in and view the ones that are FTA and the channels that are encrypted show scrambled. However I can't pick up any of the channels from digitv. I have an 80cm dish so is the dish too small or is it LNB problem.

Hope this info helps.
