Matt, what do you mean by stealth?i cannot spoof my nic as the fw of the nic doesnt allow this(another story). by stealth i presume you mean in the hax11rev39 page "stealth".. what i dont get is how do you know howto match the stealth to the mac? how can i find out what my mac's parent modem is?its impossible surely? i have a 255 hax11vev39 going along at 20mb but every so often it goes off(have to reboot modem and disable/enable nic).would it help to do stealth? any chance you have the settings?

If my understanding is correct, all MACS are tied to a certain modem type. For example...
00:0e would be an ambit 250 00:02 is a 120/200 00:14 is a 255/256 etc etc If one of these macs is checked against the identifier of the modem and it is incorrect, ie Hax defaults to a moto SB, and people new to Hax don`t change it, then the cable co will know something is wrong, and ban the mac. The legit paying customer would then contact VM to say their internet is not working, then get a new modem I`m guessing... or They could cross reference macs in different subnets/ubrs. If they find 2 identical then they know one is a clone and probably ban the pair of them. Again, the legit customer could go to virgin and say there is a fault ie no web access, and get a new modem posted out. They were banning NIC macs, but this is so easy to get around, I think they have stopped doing this. Ask sr20. He is the man to speak to! But make sure you have a good read mate. I can guarantee it has been covered in greater depth by others with greater knowledge than myself ![]() Unfortunately for the cable co`s. I understand that these sweeps do take resources and time. And its guaranteed that they know every trick that we know, just by reading on these forums! BTW stealth has got to be EXACTLY right! For example, "Ambit Cable Modem" should be exactly that...If it was "AMBIT CABLE MODEM" or "ambit cable modem" or anything else that looks dubious, they will tell. It has to look EXACTLY like a subscribed modems identifiers Last edited by mattjames78; 26-02-10 at 08:01 PM. |

sorry for my ignorance but i am trying to understand. i cannot for the life of me see any logic in what the macs are. why is a 00:0e would be an ambit 250
00:02 is a 120/200 00:14 is a 255/256 why are these not motorola sb is there a code somewhere of what they all are. i have a motorola sb5101e and am looking for a mac. what should i be looking for then? can anyone enlighten me. surely if you have to match the mac with the right modem. how do you do that, the sniffer does not tell you which modem its from. its just a mac paid for by someone with a certain speed or is it. |
