Problems with Theme-X card on Hotbird

Hi,

Just had a Humax Foxsat HDR fitted onto a motorised 80cm dish. Hotbird is tuned in OK and there is a very good signal. I bought a Theme-X viewing card and Viaccess CAM from Ebay with 10 months still left on the card.

I tried it in the Humax and all 8 channles unscramble ok, but after a varying amount of time, when you change to one of the other channels the picture becomes scrambled and displays the standard message. All 8 channels then become scrambled and I have to remove CAM and smartcard from Humax and put back in to restore picture. This is a pain if you are trying to record as it screws the recording up if it scrambles at any point in the recording window.

If you record say a 30min film and the scramble message comes up after 28 mins, when you try and view what has recorded the playback freezes a few minutes in and then throws you out. There is an option to unscramble what you have recorded, but doesn't fix anything.

The only thing I noticed is that when it happens the recorded program in the media menu has the "VA" sysmbol next to it implying it has scarmbled the program part way through. If you manage to Start and Stop recording before problem happenes, you don't get the "VA" sysmbol

Not sure whether this is an issue with the dish, smart card, CAM or the Humax/settings.

Any ideas why it would switch from unscrambled to scrambled like this?

Decided to do a bit of experimenting.

Looks like when you try and record two scrambled channles using the same smart card, it records the one you are watching un-scrambled, but records the other scrambled.

As soon as you start recording and switch channels, the recorded channel continues to record but in a scrambled state. When you play it back you have to select the un-scramble option. Unfortunaetly you can't fast forward whilst it is unscrambling, but ones it gets to the end you can replay it back normally and fast forward etc.

So is it right that the channel only records as un-scrambled if you happen to be watching the channel as well?

Still no idea why every now and again the CI slot seems to freeze and you have to remove cam and re-insert. Any ideas?
