Post what is UCAS embedded etc..

Hi,Sorry If I am asking very simple questions but I am very new to satellite receiving. I came across a Manhattan Starlight MX in car boot sale and have managed to set it up with a spare Sky dish pointing at Hotbird - with help from information on this site ! Thanks . However some of the terms used on the site have me a bit confused. What is U-CAS embedded? The manual for this receiver says it has this. What does this do?Can I put a Viaccess or Irdeto smartcard in the card slot or do I need a CAM ?Do I need different CAMs to view the various encrypted channels or can I get one CAM to do several encryption standards? Again sorry for the probably simple questions but any help would be appreciated.

Hi mate your box is quite old and I should think that any support for it will also be quite old. I did have one years ago and got rid, I did not like it, because there is very little can be done with it, that is not to say that it is no good for a beginner, it will let you learn things and when you have mastered that box and the bug has bitten, you can go for a more modern box, but I am sure that you know that.

Regards Wez

Hi Kerrywez. Ya,this box is pretty old.Its a bit scufffed up and obviously been used for quite a few years.Spotted it in car boot sale and got it just for what you said "learning things".There is so much information on various forums, websites etc.. about satellite receiving that its getting a bit confusing ! Didn't want to fork out on an expensive receiver untill I learned some more.

You are very wise mate, but when you get to grips with it you will want, no need, a better and more modern box, but you need not spend a fortune for one, there are some very good Technomate boxes for not that much and most of them can be patched.

Yes,Technomate boxes seem very popular.I will mess with this one for awhile, however most likely ,I will be back here looking for some recommendations pretty soon.

That is the attitude mate, you will be able to get all the Freesat channels with the box, but you might have to add some frequencies to the Astra 2 satellite transponders, or change some of them. I will have a look and see what I can find for you, there might be a channel list that you can load to the box, that would make things easier for you, might take some time as my so called BB is downloading at 0.07 kbps just now.

I cannot find any software or updates for your box, dated after 2007. Best thing to do is to scan Astra 2 and see what you can find from that sat. As I said you will need to add some frequencies to the box for the freesat channels. If you go here Astra 2A / Astra 2B / Astra 2D (28.2°E) - frequencies - KingOfSat you will find all the frequencies for the Aatra 2 sats, pick the ones with Clear, as you will not be able to open any of the others.
