Default Forum merger progress

Just to keep everyone updated - done a test run for a forum merger - looks like there are a couple more technical issues to address, but it's going to be too big a job to complete tonight.

After the DNS troubles earlier today, I'd rather keep the forums open, and spend tomorrow going through the process further when I can ensure I have far more time allowed for it.

In the meantime, the TW forums will remain open, and once I've made some updates to the server, I'll make preparations to try and complete this tomorrow (Sunday).

Okay, spent all day trying to get the merger completed - nearly got it done but then decided to abort at the last minute, on the grounds that the forum database was becoming unstable.

There were a number of technical issues that came up, but although seemingly solved, I noticed the forum database had become unstable.

That would have left the potential for the TW forum database to collapse some point in the future, causing a serious loss of posts, members, threads, and/or other data.

So even though I've spent my Sunday trying to complete the merger, and although it was almost completed, I decided to blow all that on the grounds that it wasn't worth the risk of running on an unstable database.

Really annoyed, but just means going back to the drawing board to ensure a smoother - and faster - merger can take place.

I appreciate it means lots of time wasted with the forums being down today, and I can only apologise for that - I just didn't want to chance finalising the merger once it became clear there was a serious risk to the forums.

Even reverting back to the original database, it looks like some minor issues have crept into the original install, so am going to get those corrected now.

AH, I was looking forward also to learning more about sat. Heres a question for ya, will the cable section of these forums become more like forums like digitalspy?

No idea, Was.

Just looking to make the forums bigger and better, but need direct support from vbulletin on the merger issue as their importer is not working properly, and the option I tried leaves important chunks of data missing.

I would have thought that would be the only way how the cable section of the forums could survive ie: not talking about third party receivers, instead official equipment and Im not talking about modding etc...
