Itv are in the process of making itv2,3,4 pay channels and then they plan to make Itv1 a pay channel too. FreeView will be the first to suffer from this.

Please let me know where you got this information from mate. How can they put a pay channel on FREEview? I can't see the government allowing then to go pay TV.

If they try to make these channels paytv on the freeview platform then they will lose their slots. Simple as that !

The allocation of the present slots specifically states they are for free to view channels only.

ITV have already suggested they want to be relieved of their Public service responsibilities, I've no doubt that someone in the organization has conducted a feasibility study into converting to a pay channel.

Freeview is not 100% free already, it didn't take long for TopupTV to arrive. You can bet that other channels would love to have extra revenue, it depends on hos strong the regulator is and if they cave in to pressure

Who is going to pay to see ITV, not me anyway. Talk is cheap, as we have all seen in recent weeks with N3.

Freeview is actually 100% free. Its just that TopupTV and other payTV slots on the terrestrial platform are on transponders which also happen to be available via the terrestrial plattform. If ITV went to a pay system they would almost certainly lose the right to the present slots they have and as the pay slots are very limited indeed you may end up with the situation that ITV channels will no longer be available on terrestrial TV.

Your probably correct about the regulator but I imagine the BBC will be very peeved indeed if ITV start using freeview slots for pay channels. At a guess, I'd also say Sky will object strongly as they have already been refused permission to transmit pay-tv channels on the freeview slots.

The whole DTT platform was supposed to be Freeview following the ITV Digital collapse. The regulator then caved to pressure to allow TUTV, I was one of the many that wrote objecting to the change.

I also wrote with an objection to the sale of spectrum following Digital Switch Over, that looks almost certain to happen as well.
