Hi i bought a dish and some stuff the other day, i thought i'd test it out, i connected one coax cable to the back of my dm and the other to the lnb of the dish.. went outside and pointed the dish to 28.2e however no signal what so every on the dm :-/, is it possible for a dish to be faulty or is it the LNB ?

Most probably it's you.

Make sure that you choose a valid transponder, try 10773H, check lyngsat for details.

Make sure all your connections are OK, with no dodgy bits of braid touching the inner.

Check dishpointer to get a rough idea which way to point.

Adjust dish carefully while monitoring the Signal quality.

Dish would have to be really really bad to not work at all. LNBs do fail, but I've never had one faulty out of the box.

How do you know the dish was pointing at 28.2E?
You can't just point a satellite dish in the general direction of 28.2E and hope to get a signal the dish needs to be positioned exactly.
Which channel did you have your DM tuned to when you tested it?

erm, i was standing under my existing sky dish :P, i bought the dish and lnb second hand :-/ i dunno man i don't wanna start cementing my garden, erm.. i was pointing dish towards 28.2e and i had 12480V 27500 on box set as apparently this is strongest transponder.. ?

Aiming a satellite dish is not like using a terrestrial aerial, you can't just manually hold it, pointing in the general direction of 28.2E, and hope to get a signal.

You would be better off putting it on the ground, leaning against the wall, at least with a clear line of sight, and a lot of luck, you might get a signal, or use an old tyre, like other senior members

Why don't you use the cable from the dish which is on Sly, you will know that it is OK, then you will know if the box is OK or not.

box is working perfect as i have sky uk running

, also i tested cable with 2300 motor, the cable powers motor perfectly..??

You will just have to erect the dish properly mate. You need to have the elevation and declination right, you just can't point it and hope for the best. Hope you get it workinng soon.

i looked at dish pointer, but suspect that its my elevation i guess, i am going this weekend to buy a nprm

with a 1.2 m dish ... so lets see what happens with that..
