Well lads, I phoned Toshiba just now and they say there is no known fault with any of their products. They want me to send them the laptop and for £76 they will give me a quote, some deal that is, he said that the cost of any repair after that would be extra. I read him out the bit about them knowing there was a fault with the bios, but he said there is nothing wrong with any Toshiba product. They are a shower of bar-stewards by the reception I got from them. I just hung up on the fecker. I am now searching on that link that you sent me abbs2002, for the way to get the bios battery out. I am, however going to try the other suggestions before I go that far.
Thanks again lads for all your help, I will keep you informed. Regards Wez

Further update lads. I tried Toshiba for the password. but that did not work. also tried a blank but not good either. I then tried holding the f1 key whilst booting, but that did not work either. I then hit Crtl+Alt+Del to reboot, hay presto that worker and she booted into XP when I held the f1 key. I was then asked to register the copy of XP, which I could ot do, so I was forced to reboot, back to the password thingy again. I then put a copy of XP in the drive and did the Ctrl+Alt+Del reboot and it is now installing XP as I write.
I shall keep you informed as to what happens when I get it installed. Thanks for all you help boys, keep up the good work. Regards Wez

Hi,
i think your laptop hard drive is encrypted and password protected as many companies do now a days. I work for an IT company and we do the same. The password is setup on boot and after POST it will ask you the password. it is not a bios password and it will not even let you in the bios. Can i ask if this is your own laptop ? Thanks |

Not likely, I installed the disk myself and I have owned the lappy for over two years now. It is only a spare lappy, I have an Acer Aspire 5738Z, which I am on now.
Any of you guys know if I were to install a Linux OS would I get away with that. The funny thing is that when I did the reinstall of XP, the machine rebooted, as it does during install and it worked just fine. It also rebooted on a restart command from me, but once I shut it down the password request came back up again, even with just a restart, but I can still get past it with the Ctrl+Alt+Del and holding the f1 key on bootup. I have a feeling that there might be something wrong with the copy of XP I am using, my mate is looking for the Toshiba recovery dish which I think I gave him, by mistake, for one of his daughters one, when I was sorting out her lappy, if I had it I would have a better idea of what is happening. I did not try taking the bios battery out, because I did not find anything regarding an Equium in that link. I also just got my new phone and have been having a play with it as well as trying to keep up with mails and things in the satellite section on here. Thanks to everyone here who has helped, I will keep you informed as to what happens, would like to get it sorted, even if it is only yo use as a Linux machine. Regards Wez
