Hi lads, I did a clean install of XP on my Toshiba, it was with an ordinary XP copy, not the Toshiba recovery disk. Now when I boot it I get a screen asking me for the password. Hope someone can help with this, I do not remember putting a password anywhere, so I am stuck. I have tried loads of passwords which I use, but none of them will allow me in. On boot if I hit the f2 button it does nothing neither does f8 or f12, I am at a loss as to what might be the matter. I do not have the Toshiba recovery disk, just now, as I was sorting out a friends daughters laptop and he must have got me disk and I am left with the wrong one, he will be back from England tomorrow and I shall get it from him then.
Regards Wez

is this the xp screen or the bios password screen??
if its the xp one the quickest way would be to just do a xp install again,if its bios or hard drive password then toshiba charge an arm/leg for a master reset password after they have all proof that the lappy is yours. ard drive password?? just replace hard drive with new one and reinstall windows. |

Cheers Rick, I would say it is in the bios, it does not even get as far as the XP boot screen. I do not understand what has happened, as I never put any pass in the bios, thought I did try everything I could thing of for the pass. I asked in the local PC shop, when I was passing the other day, and they said to bring it in, but they did no inspire any hope as they were more or less tut tuting to themselves.

1.Try typing in 'Toshiba' as the password (known backdoor password) 2.Try a blank password 3. Held down the left shift key during boot will try to find the instructions of how to remove the bios battery m8.

try "esc" or "f1" to get into bios then see if you can reset it in there,a lot of bios passwords will lock you out after a preset amount of times and getting it wrong, if you cannot get into bios its cos the bios is blocking you,try the following link

Blood hell it is a known fault then, hope I do not have to send the laptop back to them, it would cost too much to send it from here and it is not the newest of things. I will try the tricks you lads have suggested and hope that some of them work. Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.
