I know of four people all using 256's in the same town and they're all set up the same except for MAC's, all are fine except one.

This particular modem will just not lock, would these key's be of any use to him?

No, they're only useful when BPI is knackered and hangs on 'registration complete' etc when BPI docsis 1.0 is set

Also, you could try factory reset then uploading the keys like shark did

does it matter at what point I upload the keys after a reset or just as long as they're in there before I reboot and attach the cable feed?

Yeh thats what i did for all mine , reset , freq's , macs then BPI settings/key uploads , stick to what i know lol.

Maybe you could try what sr20 suggested , but if you do a reset them upload both those keys , it will work just the same , did that for all mine.
