Default Choosing a digital video camera?

Im going to start watching out for a good quality video camera for doing some experimental film work with, and then edit on my computer.

Thing is, what sort of pointers should I be looking at? ie, what are the specifications that really matter in terms of quality, and also for home editing use?

I'm not sure what my price range is, but I know that image resolution is going to be pretty high on the list - as high as possible without going too steep on price.

Suggestions as to what features I should be looking for would be great.

brian, for good definition you need to go for HDV which is a high definition format 1280 x 720 progressive or 1080i. You can go higher but cost gets prohibitive.

I have found the most important things for me have been a good optical zoom and image stabilisation. Long distance shots can be taken will ery little camera shake.

There appears to be 3 types of recording medium, dvd, HDD and mini dvtape.
