When you were/are buying a laptop, what it more is more important to you, smaller size or more features? I will be looking for a laptop soon, and features, power, bigger screen size is more important to me.

A relatively large screen and relatively lightweight were my main concerns when buying a laptop. I wasn't too worried about price - I just wanted to ensure I had a good quality model that would be good for taking to any conferences I needed to go to.
I have to admit, I didn't really do much research beforehand - I simply went to PC World, checked out the selection available, and took notes on the different features. Decided a Sony Vaio looked pretty good, all things considered, especially the use of non-reflective glass (I think that's what's it's called) so that it would be easier to focus on the screen, even if the room were brightly lit. Hope that helps.

We bought our laptop for my husband to take on his tour in Iraq, so we looked for something big, clunky, and sturdy. Maybe I'm naive in thinking a sleeker design would have not been as reliable in such a demanding place, but this thing made it through sand, dust, and an awful lot of jumbling about. Can the sleeker models withstand such pressure?

I am going to agree with Brian. I just got a new laptop, and was glad to have a decent 15.4" screen. My last one was a micro Sony job that is very small (less than 3lbs), but the keyboard was too small and the screen too small.
I think keyboard may be even more important than screen for me. My only issue with my current Dell keyboard is my natural position feels like all the keys are offset one position to the right. |

features are real deal maker for me. but that said, i wouldn't want too small a screen. as long as i can can carry it about ok then i don't mind a large screen. as long as it does what i want then i am happy

For me it's screen size, and ease of keyboard.
To Lyic's point, did you see the Panasonic laptops which are specifically made for tough use. I forget the model type but they were originally made for engineers use in the field but spread quickly to use by people who work on ships (no salt water problems with them) and people who work in the desert. They're really butch looking and heavy, but I have a ship captain friend who swears by his. |
