It may be a surprise to you but not all linux boxes are used for c/s'ing! Many of us like the almost infinite customisability of them, or the fact they run on open source software so anyone can write plugins for them.

C/s'ing is only a minor intereest to many folk with linux receivers.

Ive got an entertainment level (6 mix) sub on my sky box. I have bog all interest in Sky Sports - even on the occasional taster weekends when its been available I havent found anything worth watching, and I only watch a couple of movies a month - I buy the ones I want to watch on DVD. Therefore theres no interest there either.

The last time a Sky customer service rep rang and offered me "a fantastic deal to upgrade" there was a shocked silence when I told her I didnt like football and had little interest in the movie offerings. (They havent rung back since!)

iI want to card share using a DM 500 S box, so I have a few questions:-

How do I put and image on the box? Which programs and cables will I need?

How do I put the card sharing settings in the box?

Those are major questions and I dont have time nor the inclination to walk you thorough it. You have a LOT of reading to do so settle down for a couple of hours with Mr Google.

I guarantee it will take a few weeks playing with the box before you get a c/s working - its not the sort of receiver you take out of the box and get the advanced functions working immediately.

I'm a newbie myself...it's pretty quickly evident that this site is not the place to find such information.
Using the power of google I have found a site specialising in card sharing...as has been pointed out to you, it is far from straight forward....this is not like cable!
I do have an inclination to get into the card sharing scene, but just reading down some of the tutorials it quickly becomes evident that there are days and days of simply reading to even begin to understand the scene.
Good luck...I need it myself. You also need to remember the guys on the sites concerning sharing have been at it for years!

I am with you on that one Piagio2000

I posted 2 days ago wanting some info im not even interested in a linux box or card sharing what ever that is.

All i wanted was some info on what to buy for a 1st time user the title of the section says Satellite For Beginners with a sub title dont be afraid.
What a waste of time no one has even bothered to reply with any answers.

Through many hours of searching and reading whilst waiting for a reply i joined another forum and got all the answers i needed in 5 mins and that one is not as busy as this one.

Decided to take the plunge on a Technomate TM6900 plus a Motorised 1m dish just to get me going will think about other things once i have a bit more knowledge.

just to jump on this thread. i have owned a dm7020 for well over 6 years and have recently bought a dm600pvr, i have never bothered with cardsharing nor do i intend to.
for me as pointed out earlier in this thread, the whole point of the dm boxes are that they are customisable to do exactly what i want them to do. if i want to watch sky i use my sky box for every thing else i use my dreambox
