Default Whats wrong with this PC. Motherboard/HDD?

Ive a PC here that I installed a 500GB HDD in and I installed XP on it and it kept simply blue screening, even when replacing the RAM. I then installed Vista on it. After many attempts it went through but said it only had 12GB's?

I also moved the HDD in to another PC and it started to format it for Windows properly?

Im not entirely sure what is wrong here

That very alike overheating or system error. And yes check if your bios is correctly set-up dont hessitate to go rooting into your computer bios setting and doing a *clicks thingers* Memory diagnostic.

Bios is not reporting the correct size, check your board can support a drive that big,you may need to go to manufacturers site and download newer bios,if your bios is ok and sees full drive then look at cables (ide/ata 133 80 wire) check ist set to master and formatted in ntfs, download drive tools for your drive and check/test drive it may be faulty.

I believe I have configured the BIOS, but I may not have done. I installed XP before Vista, and I did format the partition before installing Vista. Ill have to get back to you with regards to the motherboard

With regards to the memory diagnostic, the RAM was replaced with different RAM, and one at a time, and the RAM was not faulty. Using "memtest" it simply would load up the test, but not go through it. It would simply exit. The other (working) RAM made no difference. I also put the RAM from the PC in to another PC and that was working, so thats been rules out

I did put a new BIOS on it. Im using a SATA HDD and it is formatted to ntfs and it is set as the first device to boot up as well

i would download the hdd tools from makers site and wipe the drive totally,if you "started" to format the drive then stopped it the drive could have a corrupt partition, if the boot sector is corrupt it wont start up properly, get the tools, wipe the drive (under dos) erase the boot sector if that is an option then put in your install disc, when it asks what kind of install select custom, then select the drive ( it should report the full size) and choose to format it,this way you get a clean drive with a clean boot sector,if for some reason the vista startup doesnt see all the drive then either the bios setup is wrong or the drive is shot, while you are in the bios check the memory setup and that the board can "see" all the memory you have installed.

You dont need to download the tool checker for a specific HDD, just use seatools. You said it was BSOD? Give me the stop error Code please fella, maybe we can find a resolution from there.

Have you tried more then one channel connection on the motherboard? Im guessing its a SATA?

Regards

Ill have to see the code in the morning lol. Any how, I intend to use the hard drive in another system, and it is a SATA drive.

So if the hard drive works in the new system, I know whats gone wrong
