Default motorized dish - a headache or fool-proof?

My local sat shop advised me against a motorized dish because they say that they had quite a few maintainance calls with clients when they installed those in the past. The same was said by another shop when I called to check. The winds are strong here - I live in Geneva, Switzerland, so they say that the wind moves the dish with time and takes the dish off initial settings. So they would have to re-tune the dishes.

I have two dishes installed as a result - one is for Eutelsat 4 and another is for Hotbird plus two Astras. But I am not getting a strong signal from Astra 2 where all the good free stuff from BCC is, so I am thinking about installing a third (!) dish dedicated to Astra 2. However I think it is a bit too much. In principle we can do it - I have an extra 80cm dish and I live in a stand alone house, but I see many people do use motorized systems in the UK, so it should work ok then?

Please can you help me understand whether the concern from my local sat experts is overblown or if there is a professional reason behind?

Or perhaps there are certain rules to follow as far as the size of the dish and other key elements?..

DisEQc motors generally do not do well in constant strong winds. You could though install a strong dish on a polar mount and actuator, these are much stronger and will take the wind better. If you have a clear view of the south sky a dish can be ground mounted to help shelter it.

Have you considered that if they are getting call outs to dishes they have done that it might just be their fault that they were called out. I would not take to word of someone who tells you they have been called out to fix instalations they have done, I would steer well clear of that lot mate.
