Default 1.6m Prime Focus

Picked up a new dish so thought I would post up some pictures

DSC03250.jpg DSC03252.jpg DSC03253.jpg DSC03254.jpg

It's a 1.6m prime focus, as yet I'm not sure who made it.

Not been able to do much testing yet as the LNB is knackered, but hopefully Ian will live up to his usual speedy service and A new one will be with me soon.

The polar mount was siezed solid when I got it though I have managed to free that off, and i'm about ready to see what it will recieve as soon as the new LNB arrives.

I'm planning on refurbishing the dish, so I will post updates as I go.

It will be as soon as the new LNB arrives. Don't think I will make the Horizontals with it but Im hoping for the verticals.

Ahh, I see what you mean about the LNB Skew now.

There doesn't appear to be a way of physically adjusting it.

It don't know the correct name for it, but my Fibo had a part that looks very similar to what you have there between the feedhorn and the C120 flange. A voltage applied to it adjusts the skew electrically I believe.

It's a polariser.

Yes I think it is a polariser, I've stripped the LNB and feedhorn, the feedhorn is in two parts, but they were seized together. The bolt on the lower right is to secure it as the inner part of the feed horn will slide in the outer. So when I put it back together i will leave the poliriser out and connect the feedhorn direct to the lnb.

It's a 2 wire polarizer, it uses a magnetic field to skew the signal as opposed to the older 3 wire types that uses a paddle. If you have a receiver that can control the polarizer, it's best to use one as the skew from different satellites is slightly different.

Unfortunatley none of my recievers will. I'll be starting off moving the dish manually, as I haven't got a V-Box yet either, so can adjust the skew manually for now, I'll do some reading up on these polarisers, see if I can figure out the voltages for them and have a play.

I had a box one time that did the skew, I might be worng, but I think that it was Philips that I used for the positioner for the good old D2 Mac, way back in the good old days. I think there was one for sale on here some time ago.

Regards Wez
