Hey guys, anyone else here in leicester in the LE2 area experiencing really really awfull speeds? I'm well aware of the traffic shaping rules and i make sure i don't download anything during the 9am session and the 4pm session!! I'm on the 20mb paid for service and really its taken me 4min trying to load just this page!! Tried all the usual stuff power down modem etc etc but still same issue! Out of interest though my mate lives across the road and i took his modem to mine and tried and his speed is 10mb service and it was way way better than mine! Infact he called me and said come take your modem back cause the net is virtually non existant! Swapped modems again and bang his internet was fast, took mine home hooked up and we were snails yet again!
Question is can/could they have targeted my modem for more throttling even though i ain't downloading anything NOR uploading? I'd say my downloads are about 10gig a week. I've not d/l anything for the last week just to see if i was getting caught in the traffic management times but it seems not!! Anyone care to share some light? |

I have spoken to DAVE in INDIA who tells me sir we have an engineer coming round! Engineer comes round can't find nothing wrong! Several calls to INDIA later i still have no fix! BUT now it gets crazier, just as i'm moaning about how bad my speed is, i've decided to download something from newsgropus, and my speed is 2.2mb! So we're going at our full 20mb speed. Stop the download and try browsing and again we're crawling. Then i try utorrent and its crawling to!! Very very weird! During the daytime and wee hours of the morning normal browsing speed seems to resume. I have scanned my pc thoroughly to ensure that i don't have any malware etc etc that may be affecting me but all seems clear!

something worth trying:
most of the time ethernet speed is auto set to max speed but some of the new motherboards have 1gb ports and that can (and often does) cause modem issues.Go into your ethernet card(nic) settings and set speed to 100 meg half duplex and try again! if it dont work you can set it back to auto. sparky |

yeh i was thinking that maybe there are just too many users in the area and it just slows down the network! But it still fails to explain why when i'm using my mates modem the net is useable whilst with my modem at his place and mine its really unuseable!
