wrong software?

hi all ,I as wondering if someone could explain to me how an old box,Pace 4001 ,is working away on the software revision 3.5 (upstairs ) and I have a sammy downstairs on 3.7.About 2 weeks ago the box packed in and came up with a err 2 message(no longer used).I messed about with it for a while and got it back working again.I f some kind soul could explain to me how this works please.The box went off when we updated to the 3.7 software and obviously couldnt handle the update.The box has not had a "no update mod "done.thanks in advance for any replies.....cheers

That used to happen with boxes that were from a different area, like 4000 and 1000 working in pure stayed on the old blue ntl epg, your not using the 4001 in ex cw by any chance ?
If your in pure must be a fault on the box stopping it taking the update.

thanks red .I`m in a pure area.After i posted last night I went up to bed and after a while watching tv ,there was a message on the screen saying"updating services,do not use ur remote".
Every thing is working fine so I`m not complaining....cheers
