I have a serail cable which works fine when I want to connect my Technomate box to my PC, as my PC has the serial port, but my laptop doesn't have the serial port, so I wanted to know, can I use a USB to serial adaptor to connect my box with my laptop, or will that not work?

Usually they work, check with other owners to see which ones work best, as most PC's no longer have Com ports.
Some devices do experience problems which is usually overcome using a PCI serial port.

I have two which work ok (can't remember which ones now). Just run the drivers and all should work.

I have a usb to serial adaptor and program tm's with it ok, I also program cards with my duolabs dynamite plus. The only box that it does not seem to want to work with are echolink box's.

I used to use one with my TM1000 and netbook.It worked well.
I don't have the tm1000 now I bricked it.

Now with the tm5400 I don't need it. I use a usb stick.
