Default no power to pc

hi guys
i am having a problem with a acer aspire tower pc in that even after fitting a new psu there is no power getting through to the mother board.
now this is a friends pc and normally the first thing to happen is the pc powers up internally with the cooler fan one of the first things to be heard, but i am not even getting a confirmation power on light! nothing, nadder, zilch.
now i am given to understand that this was a display model but was working, but now nothing.could anyone give any gudance on this please.
ps. the obvious clues have been exhuasted ie fuses and different power leads etc

Sounds like a good 'un there

Okay, on the basis that you've got a working PSU, try all/any of the following;

1. Remove any add-in cards - graphics/tv etc. - I once worked on a system where a PCI card went faulty and stopped the machine from powering up. Check after removing each one to see if this has solved matters.

2. Make sure all connections to the MB are tight

3. Ensure that the separate supply for the processor is connected, 4-pin square usually to the bottom left of the CPU

4. Check that the power-on connectors to the board are all tight and in the right place - use the web to find a schematic of your particular board

I'll assume you've looked at the various Acer support pages?

If none of the above have cured the problem, I'd be getting ready for a trip back to the shop.

Lightbulb Re: no power to pc

I agree with all above, but if you have loose memorey, gfx etc you should get some audio bleeps, I take it you are getting nothing so check PSU on another pc just to confirm it is working and if thats OK, Chech power switch on case = follow leads to MOBO and use spare lead to complete circuit.

Please let us know what he fault was or out come?

You only have to touch the POWER connector on the motherboard with a screwdriver to start the connection. it doesnt have to have the connector from the case connected at all, sometimes the wires may come loose.

But you need to check the new PSU is working as well. Failing that, the only other thing you can do is check for a faulty motherboard.

Regards

If you are not getting anything at all mate then it looks like a dead motherboard.
Is there no lights flashing on the board when you power up?
Are any fans kicking in?
Is there any noises or whines when you try and power up?
If the answer is no then its looking pretty terminal.

If you have a magnifying glass then a quick look at the capacitors will help.
If they are leaking or bulging then its game over.

Some wont power up if the cpu is humped so take the heatsink off and have a look.

One possibility:- i suggest you try changing the cmos battery and leaving the board connected for a long time preferably 24 hrs. but with a faulty board, i suggest you dont leave it unattended, the cmos battery needs to charge. i dont think this would cause the boards own green light not to function if thats what you mean by confirmation power light. double check all connections memory seating etc. best of luck but i think its a dead board, but a few have been brought back to life for no cost. gl.

Not sure about this one, but no-one has so far mentioned a dud CPU.
In my experience, if the mobo thinks there is no CPU, it won't trigger anything else into life.
