Default comunications set up.

The tm9100 is a bit too new to be messing with so I have been having a go setting the network up on the dm500.( I done care if I brick that)
I've been using dcc.In the 'search for ip address box the address range is set at 192.168.2.1 254.
I have the dm and my netbook connected to my wireless router, with lan cables.A search finds the dm 500 on ip 192.168.2.24.But not the router,ip 192 168 1.1.
As i said the default search range is 192.168.2.1 254.But I cannot find out how to change it to 192.168.1.1 so that it will find the router.

if you do an ipconfig in dos the router addy is the gateway addy.

you can use filezilla instead of dcc. presumably all your trying to do is ftp files to and from?

Lo G77.The router ip is 192 168.1.1.
My problem is that I cannot change the default search range in dcc from 192.168.2. 1 . To 192 168.1.1
So that it will find my router ip.

Just type it in on DCC, you don't need to search for it. You should get the I cursor when you put the mouse over the white IP box below the router.

The address range should be on the same subnet as your router.

DCC looks at the IP address of the PC you are using, which I assume CAN can connect to the router?

In theory you should not be able to see 192.168.2.1 unless your PC is on that same subnet.

If you set you PC and your Dreambox to Auto DHCP, all devices should then be able to communicate. You can then if you want, reserve some addresses on the router that wont be used for DHCP, and assign the Dreambox one of those, if you need to use a fixed IP.

You are far better off spending an hour setting up static (reserved) ip addresses on your network

This is how my own network is setup:

IP configuration:

192.168.0.x
255.255.255.x

192.168.0.1 router
192.168.0.2 Dell Dimension 5150 desktop
192.168.0.3 Compaq Evo laptop (radio card)
192.168.0.4 Acer laptop (radio card)
192.168.0.5 Samsung colour laser
192.168.0.6 Compaq Evo ethernet port
192.168.0.7
192.168.0.8
192.168.0.9
192.168.0.10 Dreambox 7020

192.168.0.40 reserve for DB streaming via ngrab

192.168.0.237 Slingbox

This is actually from a small notepad file I keep in "My Documents" so I can always refer back to it

Probably got mac numbers already.

Edit. There is probably another way to do it.But I sorted my problem out by changing the IP numbers on the pc and dm500 to 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.2 .So now the numbers are router 192.168.1.1 dm 192.168.1.2 pc 192.168.1.3.
Now they are all in the 192.168.1 range.
This changed the address range in dcc search from
192.168.2, 1 to 254. to 192.168.1. 1 to 254.
All now connected. I will try it on the tm9100 now.
Then next step 'what now'

Fixed IPs are all well and good, but when you have a Wii, two BluRay players, 2 Blackberries, wireless printer, plus 4 laptops, its much easier to let it sort itself out. Though I did have my Linux box, on a fixed IP.
