From my point of view, it can only be a good thing. I've not watched anything on any of the ITV channels (except live football) for some years as there are too many adverts coming too often. Even when they've nothing to show in a break (I understand this is increasingly the case late at night) they still insert the break and stuff it with trails.

If they go to a subscription model and only have ad-breaks between programmes, don't allow product placement on paid channels and kept on-screen graffiti to a minimum (one DOG, top left, stationary) I'd happily give them a few quid each month. They'd have to promise to keep to drama, docs, films and sport, though. Any chav-TV and I'd cancel.

You think itv is bad now! wait till they want you to pay for it.. It will become a 40 minute program to 20 minute adverts per hour as it is with 75% of the ppv channels at the moment.

ITV will become the new sky1 but with less content.. They are relying on housewives to pay for corry and other soaps.. ITV 2/3/4 will just be repeats of corry and jeremy kyle.

This is a major blow for freeview

According to a report 10 days or so ago ITV wont be taking the existing channels pay as it doesnt make economic sense. Archie isnt ruling out launching new pay channels in the future though.
