Default card fraud :(

Unfortunately, Ive been a victim of card fraud. I like to think Im uber secure with my card etc... as are a lot of members here.

Im guessing that I used an ATM machine(non bank owned) and my card has been cloned. At bank machines, I ALWAYS cover the keypad, and type in my pin number, but I suspect cameras werent at play here, but instead a device like a chassis, as seen on the real hustle etc..

Well, now my cards been blocked, a fraud investigation is under way, meaning I cant receive any money, but it also means that my card can no longer be accessed

Im quite happy I noticed this today, as I was checking my statement today, and saw the payment to an online Chemist go out today from my account

Well, Im now getting a new card and wont be able to do any thing(in terms of buying) for about a week now.Well, I can still buy, but I would have to go down to the bank and make the transaction from there.

Im happy that Ive got PayPal at least to receive money in to!-though I cant withdraw just yet

Moral of the story is DONT use any ATM's outside of your bank. I say this, but sometimes you just cant.

If only we could have an NDS/Kudelski equivalent encryption on our cards-that would be perfect for us and the banks

This happened to my mum when she worked as a cleaner, she left her back in the foyer and forgot to lock up behind her before she started, they nicked the entire bag.It was found next day by a worker in a nearby pub,the cards had been canceled but someone pipped us to the post and had ordered a P.C worth around two grand (about five years ago) and we did not find out until 3 months later when money had gone from the account. The police said that they had ordered a P.C from the supplies cataloge when they came in However the company, the supplier and the bank were very helpfull in helping us regain the money. However like a lot of people mum said she felt dirty just touching the bag,it is not only your privacy invaded but your head and heart

P.S the dick head was found and got a f*ucking caution

What I dont understand, if you say it happened at a cash machine, how did they get your card details to clone ?????, obviously your suspicions wernt aroused, therefore the machine give you some money and gave you your card back. So how did they get your card details to clone ???, normally they trap your card with some sort of device, then go and collect it when you think that the machine has swallowed it. ????

If it is the case that your card was actually cloned at an ATM, I would be contacting the bank the ATM belongs to for compensation of the inconvinence to you. They should make sure that their ATM's are secure.

Though the fact you say it was used at an online chemist, makes me think that your card details have been taken online. Without physical access to the card, it would be impossible to obtain the CVC2 number, so as you got your card back I don't see how that happened. But you do input the CVC2 code when making a purchase online. So that seems more likely.

I only ever use credit cards online as you are much better protected by the CC issuer than by a debit card issuer.

Have you ever watched the real hustle? They managed to put a chassis on an ATM machine, cloned them(and gave the card back) and were able to buy things online etc...Apparently, the strip stores everything. Also, I never took any money out, but instead was just checking my balance

Oh, also online I signed up for a service known as "verified for visa" giving an extra layer of security. When logging in for ibanking, I must also use a "pinsentry" card or I dont gain access to my statement

Its not been a good two days for me. Yesterday, my account was compromised. Today, me and another student were falsely accused of plagiarism(two totally different cases) by a tutor. The college uses "turn it in" which is quite expensive(and not available on torrents lol), so to prove my work as my own, Ive just paid "Write check" $4.95 to check for suspected plagiarism. I know there are free ones out there, but you know what educational facilities/large businesses are like(They refuse to use Open Office, as opposed to MS office, so you kinda see whats happening here)

Well, tomorrow, Ill be showing my student tutor proof of non plagiarism. The other students work was refused as it was "too good"

Under new regulations banks now have to issue a full refund of fraudulant transactions straight away - If you ask them to. After the investigation is complete they take the money back if its not found to be fraudulant.

Sounds like you bank with Barclays. They shouldnt have blocked your entire account in the way you describe. Your card has been blocked which is right, but as soon as you have your other card you should be good to go. Each card number is differant, so your previous one that was comprimised, wont work.

Also make sure that if your charged anything from this you get them to refund it - including debit interest - which is often forgotton.

If it is Barclays you bank with, have a look at this guide. May help you in the future

Getting bank charges refunded from Barclays
